About MakeMyDate
MakeMyDate is an Australian company that runs Date My Mate, a live in-person event format where friends pitch their single mates to a room of singles at a pub. No swiping, no algorithm — every person in the room has been vouched for by someone who actually knows them.
What we do
At a Date My Mate night, three people each present a short PowerPoint pitch about why their single friend is a catch. The pitches happen in front of a full room of singles at a participating pub, followed by mingling. It's part matchmaking, part comedy night, part really good pub night — designed specifically as an antidote to swipe-fatigue.
Why we're building it
Dating apps have made meeting strangers easier and meeting the right person harder. 78% of dating-app users say swiping leaves them emotionally exhausted (Forbes Health, 2024), and people are 30% more likely to stay together when they meet through friends (Pew Research, 2025). MakeMyDate is built on the simple idea that the best matchmaker has always been the friend who knows you well enough to pitch you with a straight face.
Where we operate
Date My Mate events are launching in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane at participating Australian pubs. Events typically run on quieter midweek nights, bringing new foot traffic to venues and a refreshing alternative to dating apps for attendees.
